The NT Government approved a name change for Barneson Boulevard in November 2018. The new entrance road Darwin will now be known as Garramilla Boulevard. Garramilla is the Larrakia name for the white stone that appears in the cliff-faces around Darwin Harbour.
Road construction work has been progressing well during the dry season and is reported to be ahead of schedule. An NT Government spokesperson hopes that the first section of the road through to McMinn Street will be open to traffic in the early part of 2019. She also advises that this new road is expected to transform the eastern part of the city.
