Friday 18th May 2018

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Michael McCormack, said the Australian Government has now committed $29.5 million to the Barneson Boulevard and Tiger Brennan Drive Stage 3 project. The Territory government is providing $10.8 million to the project (that includes additional funding for landscaping following community consultation), and City of Darwin is contributing $5.0 million.

“The new Barneson Boulevard link and the final stage of duplication of Tiger Brennan Drive will support approximately 80 jobs through the construction phase and provide major improvements to traffic flows into Darwin’s CBD” said Michael McCormack when he announced commencement of construction works on the new road.

Senator for the Northern Territory Nigel Scullion said the Barneson Boulevard project was vital to the future development of the CBD, and “will unlock the CBD fringes to provide for further growth and investment in the territory’s capital”.

Nicole Manison, Northern Territory Minister for Infrastructure  Planning and Logistics, said “the new road construction was part of the Government’s plan to revitalise the CBD and create new jobs. Extensive landscaping works associated with the new roads would achieve an iconic new entry to Darwin”.

The road works tender was awarded to Territoria Civil and is expected to be fully completed mid 2020. Stage 1 past Precinct on Barneson site is due to be completed early in 2019.
